New Financial Aid Shopping Sheet Helps Students Know Before They Owe

Statement of Rich Williams, U.S. PIRG Higher Education Advocate, on the release of the Department of Education model financial aid form:
For Immediate Release

“The good news today is that students have one tool to help keep skyrocketing student loan debt in check.

“College students need to understand how much college costs and how much they will owe after graduation.  However, financial aid award letters often make it hard for students to answer these questions.

“Creating a standard form will help colleges create award letters that allow students and families to better understand and compare ways to pay for college.  The form prioritizes the most affordable ways to pay for college which will help millions of student avoid more expensive and risky options like private student loans.

“Colleges should include the new financial aid shopping sheet in their financial aid award packages to provide students and families a more clear and quick way to understand college costs.”

You Can Help

We have a chance to cut billions in junk food subsidies this year. Your support will help us do the research, advocacy and grassroots organizing to convince our elected officials to act.

PRIORITY ACTION

Each year, our tax dollars pay for enough junk food additives to buy 8.5 two-liter bottles of soda for each person under 18. Help stop the subsidies for junk food.
