Jubilee USA Letter on Student Loan Rates

Jubilee for Students

Today, Jubilee USA Network, an alliance of faith based groups organized around responsible lending and borrowing practices sent a letter to Senate and House members urging them to protect “low interest student loans.”

Without congressional action, on July 1 over 7 million students will see the interest rate on their student loan double from 3.4 to 6.8 percent.

The letter noted that young adults should be allowed to develop into their “full productive potential,” rather than “being stuck in cycles of debt.”

“Increasingly we hear from our regional chapters, faith communities and congregations that we must address issues around student loans.”
