U.S. PIRG Staff
Mario Salazar is the Federal Legislative Director for U.S. PIRG and is responsible for implementing legislative campaigns on U.S. PIRG’s issues at the federal level. Mr. Salazar develops and executes legislative and administrative strategy and plans for PIRG federal priorities, including Democracy, Tax and Budget Reform, Public Health, Consumer Protection, Healthcare, Energy, and Higher Education.
Mr. Salazar began his career working on winning political campaigns on the local, state, and federal levels. He has played a role on successful campaigns in Pennsylvania, Nevada, California, and Virginia. Mr. Salazar also worked as senior political organizer for SEIU, where he provided political support for the union’s various organizing campaigns. In 2013, Mr. Salazar worked as the Virginia State Coordinator for Organizing for Action, where he advocated for comprehensive immigration reform, legislation to reduce gun violence, climate change education, fiscal issues, and implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Following his stint with OFA, Mr. Salazar worked as the Coordinated Campaign Director for a successful 2014 US Senate campaign, where he oversaw the Voter Protection, Operations, and Field departments.
Mr. Salazar is a huge Chicago Bulls fan and is a proud owner of a rescued Shiba Inu dog. He earned his BS in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and holds a law degree and public interest certificate from New York Law School.
