Our media and the Internet should serve the public interest and enrich our democracy. Unfortunately too much of today’s media is controlled by out-of-town mega-corporations that block out community voices and minority viewpoints. We are working to:
• Reinstate fair media ownership rules preventing anti-democratic media conglomeration.
• Make broadcasters on publicly-owned airwaves accountable to the local public.
• Ensure that cable rates are fair and that communities have access to an open Internet over broadband technology;
• Stop backroom efforts by the cable and telephone companies to wrest control of both the open Internet and community wireless networks;
• Support the growth of community-owned low-power FM radio and supporting a rollback of the deregulation that led to the consolidation and homonogenization of radio.

Challenging Media Consolidation: The Supreme Court has long held that “the rights of the viewers and listeners are paramount” and that “the widest possible dissemination of information from diverse and antagonistic sources is essential to the welfare of the public.”
