TexPIRG sues TxDOT over I-35 Capital Express expansion project

TexPIRG, Environment Texas, and the Rethink35 campaign are suing the Texas Department of Transportation for its plan to expand the I-35 highway. TxDOT’s plan splits the project into separate parts, which, the groups allege, is an illegal move to avoid more rigorous environmental review and public attention a larger project would receive.

“By splitting its I-35 project into separate parts, TxDOT is clearly violating the law,” says TexPIRG Environment Campaigns Director Matt Casale. “For such a major highway project, TxDOT should be undertaking the most rigorous environmental review process, as well as giving the public much more opportunity to meaningfully participate in the conversation.”
