Humira manufacturer’s efforts to block generic options challenged in court

The maker of Humira, the world’s best-selling drug, faces a new legal challenge over alleged anticompetitive tactics. Monday, U.S. PIRG filed an amicus brief in the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals arguing that AbbVie’s strategies of reverse payment settlements and creating “patent thickets” have delayed the entry of biologically similar generic drugs (biosimilars) onto the market, costing Americans billions of dollars.

As the official COVID-19 death count surpassed 210,000 Americans this week, health advocates and Floridians who have lost loved ones to the novel coronavirus  commemorated their memories Thursday as part of a national week of mourning.

Statement: Canada announces comprehensive single-use plastics ban effective 2021, eclipsing US commitments

Aiming for zero plastic waste by 2030, the Canadian government announced Wednesday its plans to ban some of the most harmful single-use plastics by the end of 2021. Canadian Environment and Climate Change Minister Jonathan Wilkinson issued a statement, announcing six plastic items that will be included in the ban: plastic grocery bags, take-out containers, straws, stir sticks, six-pack rings, and plastic cutlery.
