Closing the Consumer Bureau’s Office of Students will Harm Students

U.S. PIRG

Here is our statement about yesterday’s news that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Office of Students will be closed. It can be attributed to Mike Litt, consumer campaign director.

”Our country is facing a student loan debt crisis. But instead of solving the problem, Mick Mulvaney and the Trump Administration are taking action against the one office dedicated to protecting students in the financial market.

For nearly seven years, the office of students has protected students from unique financial threats in the marketplace, such as bad student loans and deceptive for-profit colleges.

Mr. Mulvaney’s actions against the office of students is yet another move to promote his own agenda instead of the Consumer Bureau’s mission.”
