Statement: Biden administration reverses Trump-era rollback of showerhead efficiency standards

The Department of Energy (DOE) overturned a Trump administration rule Tuesday that had lowered federal efficiency standards for showerheads. The now-reversed rule, finalized in December 2020, effectively created a loophole for manufacturers to bypass energy- and water-saving requirements by redefining the word “showerhead.” The DOE’s decision restores standards that prevent wasteful energy and water use.

Advocates celebrate EPA’s investment in toxic waste cleanup, call for more funding

Advocates celebrate the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) investment of $1 billion in the cleanup of toxic Superfund sites, using money from the newly reinstated ‘polluter pays’ tax on hazardous chemicals, which passed in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. However, to fully clean up all of the sites on the EPA's list, more funding will be needed that should come from a similar polluter-pays tax on the petroleum industry.

Statement: New White House plan to get the lead out marks key progress for safer drinking water

The White House unveiled a new plan Thursday to prevent the lead contamination of drinking water (and reduce other exposures to lead), including a requirement that the EPA propose requirements that would replace all lead service lines as quickly as feasible.
