Today, a federal judge approved AT&T’s merger with Time Warner, ruling against the U.S. Justice Department. Ed Mierzwinski, the senior director for consumer programs at U.S. PIRG, released the following statement:

“By approving this merger, the judge has done much more than raise cable bills: He has encouraged more anti-consumer mergers creating corporate behemoths with more political, as well as market, power that will raise food, prescription drug and other prices. Nevertheless, the USDOJ should be commended for taking this case head-on and should continue to try to block similar future anti-competitive proposals.”
