U.S. PIRG Statement on the Passing of Senator McCain

From his time in the Navy to his time in Congress, Senator John McCain spent his life in service of the people of Arizona and United States of America. This is all the more impressive when too often, politicians seem to be in service of themselves or their party.

At U.S. PIRG, we don’t see the problems of our country as conservative or liberal. They’re problems that affect all of us, whether we live in a red state, blue state or purple state. And, to solve them, we need to find common ground around commonsense solutions.

Senator McCain understood that. His fight against the problem of money in politics stands out in this regard. His work with Senator Feingold to pass the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act was a shining example of politicians of differing parties and values working together to tackle a problem that affects all Americans.

Our sincere condolences and sympathy to the friends and family of Senator McCain.
