CFPB Deputy Director Leandra English announced via Twitter today that she will resign next week, months after Pres. Donald Trump illegally installed his Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney into the acting director position.

U.S. PIRG’s Sr. Director of Consumer Program, Ed Mierzwinski, released this statement in response:

“U.S. PIRG commends Leandra English for her critical role in defending the independence of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Now that President Trump has nominated a new CFPB director, U.S. PIRG intends to push the Senate to only confirm the candidate if she will protect consumers. After all, that is the CFPB’s only job.”
