U.S. PIRG, AFR, Comment To CFPB On Data Use

Last week, U.S. PIRG, Americans for Financial Reform and AFR-member organizations filed the last comment letter in a seemingly never-ending series of 2018 Requests for Information from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Although there was no clear intent of this RFI, we, and allied academic scholars, both inferred it as another opportunity for industry opponents of the CFPB to attack the Bureau's consumer protection mission -- this time by challenging its collection and use of data to evaluate and respond to financial marketplace problems that harm consumers.

Health groups call on U.S. Senate to protect emergency workers

 

A coalition of leading public health and medical groups in several states across the country are urging U.S. senators to push Senate leadership to establish central, transparent coordination of the medical supply chain in the next coronavirus relief package. The coalition is petitioning the Senators because health officials from coast to coast have expressed serious concern about continued shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Ending an Amazon Prime membership is an ordeal that may constitute unfair and deceptive practices under Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act, seven groups including U.S. PIRG petitioned in a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The groups are calling on the agency to investigate Amazon Prime’s practices and take appropriate enforcement action against the trillion-dollar company.
