Group Letter Opposing "Equifax Protection Act," HR6743, Luetkemeyer, Prevents State Data Laws

We've joined a group letter from over 25 consumer, civil rights, civil liberties and privacy groups opposing the latest Congressional proposal to exempt banks and other financial institutions, broadly defined to include Equifax and other credit bureaus, from stronger state data security, privacy and data breach protections. These Trojan Horse bills come riding in with tiny protections riding in the saddle, but massive elimination of stronger state laws hidden in the belly of the beasts.

Coalition Privacy Letter to FTC 14 Jan 2020

In support of a report by colleagues from the Norwegian Consumer Council on whether the data sharing and privacy practices of a number of dating and other smartphone apps were in compliance with European privacy rules (GDPR), U.S. PIRG and other leading groups sent letters to key policymakers, including several state Attorneys General, the Federal Trade Commission and all members of the U.S. House and Senate. 

Group Letter to CFPB Director Urging She Cancel Anti-Consumer Reorganization

Group letter signed by U.S. PIRG, state PIRGs and allies to CFPB Director Kathy Kraninger urging her to cancel a reorganization intentionally designed to weaken the authority of the bureau's enforcement attorneys. This reorganization comes in the midst of a public health crisis and pandemic, with case numbers rising throughout the country and as federal and state consumer protections continue to expire, leaving consumers vulnerable to predatory financial actors.
